The story is told by Toník, a boy who hasn’t been born yet, from his mom’s belly. Thanks to the boy’s irresistible narration, we can observe how his mommy and daddy fell in love and got married. That’s how Toník’s family, which he takes so much pride in, was created. His mom Lucy is a painter, and his father Jozef is a carpenter, and except for Toník who’s not yet been born, they are the main characters of the story. There are grandmothers too, though – the first one, Coco (with a Chanel spirit) and the other one plays the violin (and humbly calls herself Paganini) – and grandfathers, of course – Lojza, a confectioner, and Antonín, also a carpenter. Though he’s no longer alive, he’s still all over the place.
